Are video games underpriced?

Are video games underpriced?

Disclaimer: The gaming industry is global, but to make it simpler I will only use US figures. This simplification does not detract from the arguments in the article. Indeed, it should be straightforward to generalize them to a different regional market within the video game industry.

There is an intense debate in the gaming community at the time of writing over the price of AAA games, which has been stable at the $50 – $60 range for more than two decades. In those two decades, the gaming industry and the economy have changed considerably, and even our expectation as gamers of what an AAA game should be has grown.

Agile certification: Is it worth it and which one to pick

It is essential to keep in mind that every game and every studio works differently. Game production is hardly a standardized practice. Therefore, for anyone reading this from a development studio, it is likely that some of the descriptions in the article might not match 100% your particular cycle, and that is ok. Moreover, the relatively new introduction of modern software practices, such as Scrum, has started a shift towards an iterative process. I will cover both the “traditional” (noniterative) and “agile” (iterative) production processes.
